What is Web Hosting
By the term web hosting we mean the service of uploading your website to the Internet. A web server, is configured to provide Internet Services. It is connected to the world wide web and can host either a single or multiple websites. There are many factors to consider when choosing the right web hosting provider for your website. Some of them are the estimate website traffic, location and security. If you are starting up, I offer Web Hosting services with a home based web server which is located in Cyprus Limassol. In fact this website is hosted on the web server that I have just mentioned.
Although I put the best effort to provide you with such an Internet service, your project might be suitable for a bigger audience. For such projects I recommend a plan from other web hosting companies like GoDaddy or Hostgator. Another company that I have worked with is Amazon, AWS EC2 is a cloud service that offers a FREE month of usage on their cloud web servers.
Domain Registration
To upload your website on the internet you also need a domain name (www.example.com) which is bought from a domain registrar. It usually costs around 15 euros per year, however some domain names costs a lot more depending on their popularity and other factors. Each domain name is unique, so no one other in the world can own the same domain name as you if you purchase it.
A single website can have multiple domain names. For example you can buy example.com, example.org or example.net and each domain name can be configured to point to the web server that hosts your website. This is a clever tactic some companies use in order to secure their brand name and identity.
